My black

One of my interests is exploring blackness.

Being a black woman born and raised in London to parents who didn’t really put any emphasis on my cultural heritage and traditions, I kinda grew up conflicted. I went to a girls school with very proud Nigerians so I felt shame that I didn’t know my heritage. I was called bounty and didn’t really feel “black” enough.

I kinda realised after I left school, that there was no one way of being black. And it kickstarted my curiosity exploring the black experience including my own and looking at different customs and traditions within my own culture.

Currently looking at the visual achieves documenting black people, culture, music etc by black people.
